If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that I’ve been making this bone broth for my dogs for years. It’s become a staple in our home — not just because it’s packed with nutrients, but because it helps me rehydrate their food every night in a way that supports their health from the inside out.
Here’s how I make it and why each ingredient matters.
What You’ll Need
Note: I typically measure with my heart. The amounts below can be adjusted based on the size of your slow cooker or crockpot.
Base Ingredients:
- 2 scoops of The Daily from Native Pet (an 11-in-1 daily supplement that supports whole-body wellness)
- 2–3 beef marrow bones
- 4–6 chicken feet (aka chicken paws)
- 1 shot of apple cider vinegar (helps break down bones to release collagen)
- A pump or two of fish oil — excellent for skin, coat, and joint health)
Optional Veggies (Whatever You Have On Hand):
- Carrots
- Spinach
- Potato skins
- Celery
- A sprig or two of fresh rosemary (if you have it—it adds great anti-inflammatory benefits!)
Why These Ingredients?
🐶 The Daily (Native Pet):
This is my go-to daily supplement. It’s packed with prebiotics, probiotics, antioxidants, and joint support. I love knowing I’m starting the broth with something that promotes snout-to-tail health.
🦴 Beef Marrow Bones:
This is my go-to daily supplement. It’s packed with prebiotics, probiotics, antioxidants, and joint support. I love knowing I’m starting the broth with something that promotes snout-to-tail health.
🐓 Chicken Feet:
Surprisingly high in glucosamine and chondroitin, which support mobility and reduce joint stiffness. This is gold for big breeds like Great Danes.
🍎 Apple Cider Vinegar:
Just a small splash helps pull nutrients from the bones into the broth. It’s an old-school trick that works!
🐟 Fish Oil:
Fish oil promotes healthy skin and shiny coats while boosting joint health. Plus, my dogs love the flavor.
🥬 Veggies + Rosemary:
These add a vitamin-rich layer to the broth. Rosemary is optional, but it’s known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
How to Cook It:
- Add everything to your slow cooker or crock pot.
- Fill with water, covering the bones about an inch or so.
- Cook on low for 7—8 hours or high for 3—4 hours
- About 30 minutes before it’s done, scoop out the getties and add in:
- Chicken breast
- Gizzards
- Or any of your dogs favorite proteins
- Let the meat cook until full done

Storage + Serving Tips
Once cool, I pour the broth into glass jars and store them in the fridge. The collagen makes it thicken into a jelly — don’t be alarmed, that’s the good stuff!
To Serve:
- Heat up 4tbsp of broth with 1/2 cup of hot water
- Pour it over your dog’s food to rehydrate and boost nutrition
- If I’ve added meat, I’ll shred it and put it over their dinner and store it in a separate storage container
Final Thoughts
This broth has made a huge difference in my dogs’ health over the years — from shinier coats to smoother joints. It’s especially great for large breeds like Great Danes who benefit from the extra joint support.
